Summer is in full swing and I am at my annual trek back to Toledo, Ohio for our family reunion. I read this article in Success Magazine on the plane and wanted to share with you these 3 terrific ideas for summer fun close to home.
1. Watch a movie or catch a concert outdoors. A movie or a concert really doesn?t count as an adventure, unless it?s outdoors, in a park or on a beach or lake. Pack that cooler, spread a blanket, break out the lawn chairs beneath the stars.
2. See the sights?close to home. Be a tourist in your own town. Go to a museum, gallery or planetarium; take in a ballgame, go to the zoo, or theme park; eat at an unusual theme oriented restaurant, or visit an historical site. (Involve the whole family, by letting each member pick at least one place to visit.)
3. Tackle a project with your kids or grand kids. Build a tree house, make smoothies with different ingredients and do taste tests, bake cookies (let the kids make them), restore a car, plant a garden, learn to play chess, take up a new activity like ballroom dancing. Sharing a new experience puts you and your kids on common ground.
Bonus:
4. Go camping. If, like me, sleeping on the ground is not your thing?Rent an RV for a weekend, or check out campgrounds that offer furnished cabins. Nature offers a special kind of peace and quiet, an opportunity to s?mores and tell scary stories, and have uninterrupted time for discovery together.
