Brooks on Tuesday said she's leaving her position with Adams on Wednesday so she can accept a temporary position at the Fire Bureau that begins Thursday.
Brooks said she previously applied for a communications position with the Fire Bureau -- but officials instead gave the gig to Aaron Johnson, a longtime employee for Commissioner Randy Leonard. Johnson originally joined the fire bureau on a temporary assignment, too, after being "detailed" there by Leonard.
Brooks said she currently makes $75,000 and hopes to earn that amount in her new position as a program specialist.
Brooks was Adams' fourth spokesperson. She has been preceded by Wade Nkrumah (who quit during the Beau Breedlove scandal), Roy Kaufmann (who unexpectedly transferred to the city's emergency management bureau, then quit) and Amy Ruiz (who ascended to Adams' deputy chief of staff, and now is his chief of staff).
Other staff for Leonard and Adams -- both of whom are leaving office at year end -- are expected to wind up in city bureaus. Ruiz, for instance, is being considered for a public affairs position at the Transportation Bureau.
Commissioner Nick Fish this year hired Adams' last two chiefs of staff, Warren Jimenez and Jennifer Yocom, to join the Parks Bureau.
