The Google Nexus 4 has been going in and out of stock as the big G struggles to keep up with demand for its flagship Android smartphone. Now it looks like buyers will have another option to play with in the form of this white Nexus 4 variant.
PhoneArena snagged the picture, which was reportedly snapped on an LG Optimus G. The white Nexus 4 seen in the picture sports the same disco-fabulous reflective finish seen on the black variant of the phone, going by the sparkles at the bottom edge of the picture.
There's no word on when the white Nexus 4 will hit stores ? but going on past form, as soon as it arrives it'll be sold out.

I meet a lot of people in my job; many of them are in communications, marketing, or media, and surprisingly, a large number them hate Facebook and/or Twitter with passion.
They typically say that they won't join because they don't believe in them. I typically respond that these aren't mythological creatures, Santa Claus, or a God that requires belief.
They don't require a highly emotional response. You don't have to like them or hate them. They are what they are.
I tell these people that you should be on them because you work in marketing, communications, or media, and you need to know about these media channels.
You can't read about them, you need to be in them to know them--to see how people are using them.
You need to know what's acceptable in those communities, what people are sharing and not sharing, what events they are going to, what they are saying to each other and how they say it. You need to know these things.
You should be on them because if you are not, then you won't know when things change. And they change constantly.
You don't need to be active on them; you can lurk.
You don't need to share what you had for lunch, or the other inane stuff you complain about that others share or that you heard they share. Share good stuff or don't. But you need to be on them.
You need to be on them before others find out that you're not.
Facebook's new search feature, still being rolled out to users, promises to be pretty nifty if you want to find friends who, say, moved to another city or use a certain doctor. But if you don't want to be found???and pestered??? the social network wants you to know there are steps you can take to remove your information from its new Graph Search.
Privacy advocates are understandably concerned about Graph Search because, like other personal information you can't hide on Facebook, this is another feature?you cannot opt out of; you can only change your settings to try to?minimize what others find out about you.
"Ultimately, Graph Search will make everything you share with the public and with friends a whole lot easier for people to find," notes security software maker Kaspersky, on its blog. (For a funny???but scary???look at how Graph Search can be used, see Tom Scott's Tumblr blog;?hat tip to NPR's On The Media.)?
On Facebook, users can find a handy Q-and-A about Graph Search and a helpful video, shared below as well, about changing privacy settings.?
Facebook wants users to believe it takes their privacy seriously, especially after a settlement last summer?of federal charges that Facebook deceived consumers and forced them to share more personal information than they had intended. As part of the settlement, the Federal Trade Commission requires Facebook to get user consent for some changes to privacy settings. Facebook is?also subject to 20 years of independent audits about privacy.
Michael Richter, Facebook privacy officer for product, writes on the Q-and-A page that "privacy works consistently across Facebook, not just on Graph Search. When you control who you share your information with, you determine who it's shared with across Facebook???including News Feed, timeline and in Graph Search."
There are also two other Graph Search info pages that are very useful, one on How Privacy Works with Graph Search and another, Graph Search Privacy. Bookmark those pages, because you'll want to refer to them often once Graph Search is completely rolled out.
In a related move this week, Facebook said its Chief Privacy Officer of policy, Erin Egan, now has an "Ask the CPO" feature on the site's "Facebook and Privacy" page, where you can ask Egan?questions. Not all will be answered, but Facebook says, "Each month, Erin will respond to some of your questions."
Here's Facebook's video that?walks?you?through?the?steps you can take to help ensure privacy when it comes to Graph Search:

Stanwood Fred Elkus, 75, of Lake Elsinore who was arrested Monday, Jan. 28, suspected of killing Dr. Ronald Franklin Gilbert, 52, of Huntington Beach at the medical office in Orange County on Jan. 28.

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. ?-- A retired barber accused of shooting a California urologist to death in his Newport Beach exam room is due to appear in court for the first time Wednesday.?
Calif. DMV via AP
Ronald Franklin Gilbert, 52, of Huntington Beach, Calif., who was allegedly shot and killed by a 75-year-old retired barber, Stanwood Fred Elkus, on Jan. 28, at his office in Newport Beach, Calif.
It's unclear if Dr. Ronald Franklin Gilbert, the 52-year-old victim of Monday's shooting, was the physician who treated Stanwood Fred Elkus, 75, for prostate problems. Neighbors said Elkus was angry about his incontinence following a recent surgery.
Elkus was jailed on $1 million bail after police say he shot Gilbert multiple times in the affluent coastal city in suburban Orange County.
The urologist appeared to be the only target of the attack, police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe said.
Elkus was plagued by prostate troubles and was upset by a surgery that left him running to the bathroom constantly, sometimes in mid-conversation, neighbors said.
"One day we were talking about other things outside and he says, 'Oh hold it right there!' and he was rushing to his house and when he came back, he said, 'I have a problem with my prostate,'" recalled Miguel Soto, who lives across the street.
"He said, 'I had surgery and now I am worse than before the surgery.'"
Soto said Elkus never named his doctor, and Soto did not know if it was Gilbert.
A few weeks ago, Elkus said he would be away from home because he was checking into a hospital again, but when Soto saw him last week, he didn't mention his health, the neighbor said.
Another neighbor, James Lord, said Elkus mentioned Sunday that "he wasn't going to be around much longer."
"I told him, 'No Stan, you're gonna outlive me,'" Lord said.
Detectives recovered a handgun at the scene of the shooting and found additional evidence at Elkus' home in Lake Elsinore, but police declined to provide details.
Gilbert worked in general urology, sexual dysfunction and related surgical techniques, including vasectomies, bladder and prostate cancer, according to his biography on the website of the Orange Coast Urology Group, which he joined in 1993.
One of his specialties involved using a laser to vaporize prostate tissue blocking the urinary tract.
He decided to become a doctor mainly because his late father was a doctor, the biography said, adding that Gilbert had been a stockbroker and a singer in a rock band. He had worked for 20 years at Hoag Hospital and was its former urology chief.

While it is never my intention to devalue or denigrate the belief system of anyone, I also realize that there are many schools of thought which can be helpful to many people; teachings which offer peace of mind and happiness regardless of the foundation upon which an individual?s world view might be built. That being said, I offer just a little taste of the Buddhist perspective on the pursuit of happiness.
?Success is getting what you want; happiness is wanting what you get.? ~ Dave Gardner
Of course, to truly understand the Eightfold Path takes years, if not decades. There are Buddhist monks who spend their entire lives working to comprehend the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, the monk who originally laid out the path for us to follow. My intention here is not to indoctrinate or convert anyone, but instead to offer another tool to help you in your pursuit of happiness.
The Eightfold Path to Wisdom
The Eightfold Path was developed as a journey toward Wisdom, Ethical Conduct, and Mental Development. It enfolds eight steps toward each of these goals, thus the name ?Eightfold Path.? The first of these, Wisdom, is achieved through two steps known as ?Right View? and ?Right Intention.? In essence, these two lead us to a better understanding of the world around us, and the actions we take to deal with that world. Follow this link for deeper understanding of The Eightfold Path.
Right View ? is the concept that, to achieve Wisdom, we must understand things as they really are, and accept them as such. This is the cognitive aspect of wisdom; the psychological result of perception, learning, and reasoning. For more on this, see my previous post, The Pursuit of Happiness Requires the Acceptance of Reality.
Right Intention ? is the concept that, to achieve Wisdom, we must act in accordance with reality. This is the volitional aspect of wisdom; the capacity for conscious choice, decision, and intention. This encompasses the impetus toward moral choice and ethical action.
Again, since it is not my intention to try to ?change the mind? of anyone, these definitions are extremely basic explanations of the two right-fold steps to Wisdom. Buddhist teaching of the Eightfold Path goes far beyond these fundamental ideas however, even in this basic form, I believe them to be of great value; for I also believe that right-thinking and right-acting are as fundamental to the pursuit of Wisdom as Wisdom is to the pursuit of happiness.
In future posts I will offer basic principles for Ethical Conduct and Mental Development as critical tools for finding happiness. If you have questions or comments on these concepts, please feel free to comment below.
If you are struggling with your own journey of happiness, and would like help finding or staying on the road you would like to follow, get in touch with me today.
As of just a few days ago, unlocking your iPhone, or any other wireless device for that matter, is no longer legal. The EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) has stepped forward to clarify exactly what that means and who it ultimately will affect. As it turns out, it isn't necessarily the end user that would be violating the law.
According to a report by 9to5Mac, it's actually the unlockers themselves that will most likely be affected according to the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
More likely, wireless carriers, or even federal prosecutors, will be emboldened to sue not individuals, but rather businesses that unlock and resell phones.
Basically, wireless carriers and big business aren't going to go after the end user. If you purchased an unlock from a site on the internet and you're walking around with an illegally unlocked phone, the odds of you getting in trouble for that are almost invisible. The liability would mainly lie on the company that provided the unlock to you.
Carriers such as AT&T will unlock your iPhone for you once you've fulfilled the commitment term of your contract. This can be done by completing the full term or upgrading to a new iPhone or other device, which in turn would allow your older iPhone to be unlocked legally.
As for jailbreak, that's still legal under the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act).
The legal shield for jailbreaking and rooting your phone remains up ? it?ll protect us at least through 2015.
It's also worth noting that any device that was purchase before the new rule went into affect is still fair game. So if you've purchased an iPhone or other mobile device before that date, you're still legally entitled to unlock it, whether that's officially through your carrier or any other outlet.
Launching a ramped up effort to prioritize immigration reform under the Obama administration?8 Senators (4 Republican and 4 Democrat) have proposed bipartisan plan to reform immigration law in this country. After four years of?disastrous?immigration law enforcement and border patrolling splitting up thousands of families, leaving children orphaned and subjecting undocumented immigrants to a slue of human rights violations?is there hope in sight?
Yes and no. The proposed law does propose pathways to citizenship, but only after there has been an increase patrolling on the border and in places of work.
Seth Freed Wessler writes at Colorlines:?
The plan is a mix of legal immigration programs for undocumented immigrants and additional immigration enforcement measures. The path to citizenship will kick in only after additional border security and visa entry controls are implemented.
Immigrants under the plan would be required to pay back taxes, fines and other penalties and learn English before they can apply for permanent status. Applicants will also have to show they are currently employed. Those who have been convicted of crimes or are found otherwise ineligible for visas will be susceptible to deportation. It?s not clear now many of the 11 million undocumented immigrants currently in the country would be excluded because of these restrictions.
To accommodate conservatives who have long demanded increased border security before agreeing to a path to citizenship, the framework states clearly that the process to gain permanent immigration status will begin only ?[o]nce the enforcement measures have been completed.?
They also acknowledge that the path to citizenship will be long and hard. Obama will be addressing the nation tomorrow and proposing his own plan, as well.
Nintendo's Q3 earnings report is out, and it's sold just over 3 million units of its new Wii U console (at a loss) along with 11.69 million pieces of software. The other big news is that it's adjusted sales forecasts downward -- again, after it announced they were being cut back in October. However, since the flagship console is sold at a loss, while Nintendo is predicting 17 percent lower revenue, its prediction for net income has actually moved up by eight billion yen ($87 million).
It's not all bad news however, as it's showing about $160 million in net income for the year, compared with last year's losses. The 3DS has jumped up to 29.84 million sold, while the original Wii is within shouting distance of the 100 million number. We're digging through the report now, so hit the source link to check it out for yourself or check back in a moment for more data.
MOGADISHU (Reuters) - A suicide bomber blew himself up near the Somali presidential palace on Tuesday, killing at least two soldiers in a strike apparently aimed at the country's leaders, a palace guard at the scene said.
Officials working in the palace and guards said Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was abroad at the time of the blast and Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon Saaid, whose house was near the site of the explosion, was safe.
The blast was the first this year in Mogadishu, where security has improved greatly since Al Shabaab - Islamist rebels allied to al Qaeda - were driven from the capital by African peacekeepers in late 2011.
The group - which wants to impose its strict version of Sharia or Islamic law - is fighting to topple Mohamud, whose election last year was the first such vote since warlords ousted military dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991.
"The man blew up himself near a wall between the Ethiopian embassy and the Somali PM's residence," Ahmed Ali, a Somali soldier at the presidential palace told Reuters.
The two buildings are inside a sprawling compound that also houses the presidential palace.
"One guard died there and then. Another died of his wounds. They were all the guards of the PM," said Ali. "The man was an al Shabaab defector. He had a gate pass, an identity card of the national security."
Guards at the palace who declined to be named said the blast partially damaged a small room made of iron sheets where the prime minister's guards are stationed, but little else was damaged. Buildings and cars within the compound were untouched.
OUSTED FROM URBAN CENTRES
The guards said the bomber was known to them, and frequently visited the palace. When he came by on Tuesday morning, the guards took the suicide bomber through a routine inspection and found he was clad in an explosive jacket.
The guards tried to prevent him from detonating his device, but it went off - killing one instantly and wounding two others.
Al Shabaab was not immediately available for comment on the attack.
The group fled to southern Somalia after quitting Mogadishu but in late September Kenyan troops forced it to withdraw from the port of Kismayu, its last major urban stronghold in the Horn of Africa nation.
That appears to have ended it as a quasi-conventional military force, though Al Shabaab remains a threat and has vowed to step up suicide bombings and hit-and-run attacks.
On January 17 the group said it had executed a captive French agent after a French commando mission to rescue him failed.
There are actually several noteworthy bacterial species that live almost exclusively in the mid and upper atmospheres.
For instance, here is a story from 2008 about 'rain making' atmospheric microbes. [sciencedaily.com]
This announcement is neither new, nor unexpected, and the hype injected by the media about it serves only to convey how poorly educated certain segments of the population actually are.
Seriously, if there is even the slightest possibility that life could exist in any given environment on earth, there is a reasonable expectation that given a sufficient sampling of those environments, you will find thriving lifeforms that have adapted to that environment. Life is just that pernicious and invasive.
Something as profoundly in contact with huge numbers of open biomes, like the atmosphere, with direct mechanisms of mixing low and high atmosphere contents, it really isn't surprising that microbes have adapted to conditions in the upper atmosphere.
For goodness sake, we have novel species of microbe that have adapted to the extreme conditions of nasa JPL cleanrooms, including intense, sustained UV bombardment. JPL hasn't be around nearly as long as the stratosphere. This isn't hard.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) ? The Opera Company of Philadelphia is getting a name change that officials say is in better harmony with its move toward more innovative programming and greater diversity in its repertoire.
The company said Tuesday it will now be known simply as Opera Philadelphia. The new name and logo will appear on all of its brochures and ads.
The announcement was made in conjunction with the unveiling of the 2013-2014 season.
The company plans to continue bringing opera to new audiences with surprise "pop-up" concerts in famous Philadelphia locations. Past performances at a downtown Macy's and the Reading Terminal Market have received millions of views on YouTube.
Opera Philadelphia says it has five new operas in development and aims to present challenging contemporary works along with classics like "Carmen" and "La Boheme."

Twitter says it turns over user data to government agencies in the U.S. in 69 percent of the requests made for such information, according to a new transparency report released by the microblogging site.
"It's our continued hope that providing greater insights into this information helps in at least two ways: first, to raise public awareness about these invasive requests; second, to enable policy makers to make more informed decisions," writes Jeremy Kessel,?Twitter's manager of legal policy, on the site's blog Monday.?
Last year, 81 percent "of all information requests we received worldwide originated from the U.S.," Kessel said.
In 2012 in the U.S.,?there were 815 "user information requests" about 1,145 Twitter?user accounts, and for 69 percent of those requests "some or all information" was given to the agencies. The majority of the "requests" ? 60 percent ? were subpoenas, 19 percent were search warrants and 11 percent were court orders for the information.
Another 10 percent are requests are from law enforcement agencies that aren't in any of the categories above, but might be "exigent?emergency disclosure requests?and other requests received for user information without valid legal process,"?Twitter?says?in?its?transparency?report.
(You can see here how the U.S. stacks up against other countries when it comes to requests for Twitter user information, but no other country even comes close.)
Google, which has been doing transparency reports longer than Twitter, is comparable in terms of the user data turned over to government agencies, about 66 percent, as of Dec. 31, 2012.
This is Twitter's second transparency report. Its first was issued last July, and at that time, Kessel wrote, "We've received more government requests in the first half of 2012 ...?than in the entirety of?2011."
Twitter also shared the number of requests to take-down tweets that allegedly violate the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. There were 3,268 such requests in 2012; Twitter complied in 53 percent of the cases:
Twitter says that it "may not comply with with every request" for several reasons, including "takedown notices that fail to provide sufficient information for us to locate material on Twitter."?
The site also gets a "large number of misfiled, non-copyright complaints" through its?Web form.
"Over the course of 2012, we saw a steady increase in government requests (with a slight decline in copyright takedown notices)," Twitter said in its report, which should serve as a warning of sorts?to those using the social media site. "All signs suggest that these government inquiries will continue to climb into the foreseeable future."

CAIRO (AP) ? Protesters battled police for hours in Cairo on Monday and thousands marched through Egypt's three Suez Canal cities in direct defiance of a night-time curfew and state of emergency, handing a blow to the Islamist President Mohammed Morsi's attempts to contain five days of spiraling political violence.
Nearly 60 people have been killed in the wave of unrest, clashes, rioting and protests that have touched cities across the country but have hit the hardest in the canal cities, where residents have virtually risen up in outright revolt.
The latest death came on Monday in Cairo, where a protester died of gunshot wounds as youths hurling stones battled all day and into the night with police firing tear gas near Qasr el-Nil Bridge, a landmark over the Nile next to major hotels. In nearby Tahrir Square, protesters set fire to a police armored personnel carrier, celebrating as it burned in scenes reminiscent of the 2011 revolution that ousted Hosni Mubarak.
"I will be coming back here every day until the blood of our martyrs is avenged," said 19-year-old carpenter Islam Nasser, who wore a Guy Fawkes mask as he battled police near Tahrir square.
Angry and at times screaming and wagging his finger, Morsi on Sunday declared a 30-day state of emergency and a nighttime curfew on the three Suez Canal cities of Suez, Ismailiya and Port Said and their provinces of the same names. He said he had instructed the police to deal "firmly and forcefully" with the unrest and threatened to do more if security was not restored.
But when the 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew began Monday evening, crowds marched through the streets of Port Said, beating drums and chanting, "Erhal, erhal," or "Leave, leave" ? a chant that first rang out during the 18-day uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak in 2011 but is now directed at Morsi.
"We completely reject Morsi's measures. How can we have a curfew in a city whose livelihood depends on commerce and tourism?" said Ahmed Nabil, a schoolteacher in the Mediterranean coastal city.
In Suez and Ismailiya, thousands in the streets after curfew chanted against Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood, the Islamist group from which he hails. In Suez, residents let off fireworks that lit the night sky.
"Oh Morsi, Suez has real men," they chanted.
In Ismailiya, residents organized street games of soccer to emphasize their contempt for the curfew and state of emergency.
On Morsi's orders over the weekend, army troops backed with tanks and armored vehicles have deployed in Port Said and Suez ? the two cities worst hit by the violence ? to restore security, but they did not intervene to enforce the curfew on Monday night.
The commander of the Third Field Army in charge of Suez, Maj. Gen. Osama Askar, said his troops would not use force to ensure compliance. Army troops in Port Said also stood by and watched as residents ignored the curfew.
Adding to Morsi's woes nearly seven months into his turbulent presidency, the main political opposition coalition on Monday rejected his invitation for a dialogue to resolve the crisis, one of the worst and deadliest to hit Egypt in the two years since Mubarak's ouster.
Nevertheless, the dialogue went ahead late Monday afternoon. A list of participants released later by the presidential palace showed that Morsi presided over an inaugural session made up almost entirely of fellow Islamists whose support for him has never been in question.
The violence first erupted Thursday and accelerated Friday when protests marking the two-year- anniversary of the start of the anti-Mubarak uprising turned to clashes around the country that left 11 dead, most of them in Suez.
The next day, riots exploded in Port Said after a court convicted and sentenced to death 21 defendants ? mostly locals ? for a mass soccer riot in the city's main stadium a year ago. Rioters attacked police stations, clashed with security forces in the streets and shots and tear gas were fired at protester funerals in mayhem that left 44 people dead over the weekend.
The official MENA news agency said three more people died on Monday, succumbing to wounds sustained on Saturday, taking to 47 the number of people killed in the city over the past three days.
Earlier Monday, thousands in Port Said turned out for the funerals of some of those killed over the weekend. Witnesses later reported clashes in the city. The armed forces later said troops have repulsed an attack by six gunmen on motorbikes on the city's main prison.
In Cairo, white clouds of tear gas hung over Qasr el-Nil Bridge from early Monday morning and through the evening, wafting into nearby districts. The fighting was reminiscent of scenes two years ago to the day, when police and protesters battered each other on the same bridge in the most violent day of the 2011 uprising.
"People died to gain their freedom, social justice, bread. Now after 29 years of the despotic Mubarak, we're ruled by a worse regime: religious fascist, more dangerous," said Mohammed Saber, a 65-year old engineer who came to watch the clashes with his wife and children.
The clashes intensified in Monday evening. A group of protesters, including black masked youth, flashed the V-for-victory signs as they jubilantly milled around the burning police vehicle in Tahrir.
Outside Cairo, protesters marched, pelted police with rocks or cut off roads and railway lines in nearly a half dozen cities, including the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, the country's second largest.
The geographical spread of the unrest and the tenacity of the protesters have showcased the depth of opposition to Morsi's rule outside the ranks of the Brotherhood and other Islamist groups.
However, it will take the mostly liberal and secular opposition time and effort to translate this popular resentment of the Islamists into electoral power and seriously challenge them at the ballot box. The Islamists have dominated elections for both houses of parliament late in 2011 and early 2012. Morsi narrowly won the presidency with under 52 percent of the vote.
The major opposition parties grouped in the National Salvation Front, led by reform leader and Nobel Peace Laureate Mohamed ElBardei, are seeking to leverage the turmoil roiling the country to break the Islamists' hold on power and force Morsi to make concessions.
ElBardei and other front leaders said they would only accept his invitation to join a national dialogue to resolve the crisis if he agreed first to form a national unity government and a commission to rewrite what they see as contentious parts of an Islamist-backed constitution adopted in a referendum last month.
The rejection of Morsi's offer is likely to lend more weight to ElBaradei and his colleagues in the Salvation Front at a time when protesters on the streets are increasingly showing their independence from politicians, voicing a wide range of non-political grievances.
The Front has painted the explosion of unrest as a backlash against attempts by Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamists to monopolize power in Egypt. It says the instability is proof that Morsi doesn't have enough legitimacy to bring security or achieve reforms alone.
"We support any dialogue if it has a clear agenda that can shepherd the nation to the shores of safety," said ElBaradei, flanked by former Arab league chief Amr Moussa and leftist Hamdeen Sabahi.
The Front later issued a statement in which it said failure by Morsi to meet its conditions should be cause for early presidential elections, now scheduled for 2016.
It also called for mass, nationwide protests on Friday.

Facebook for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad has been updated to version 5.2 and among the highlighted features are voice messages, video recording, and a new Nearby tab.
Voice messages are billed as a way to add audio to your texts for when you have "more to say". Video recording happens right in the Facebook app, so you can get yourself, or anything you care to film, online and shared with your entire graph more conveniently than ever.
