Rice: 9/11 showed threats come from failed states (AP)

COLUMBUS, Ga. ? Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said a key lesson of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks is that the greatest threats to the U.S. can come from "failed states" that cannot control their territory.

Rice said in a speech in Columbus on Monday that the U.S. cannot afford to leave Afghanistan an "ungoverned territory" after invading it.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports (http://bit.ly/qh5Hct) that Rice discussed her relationships with Afghanistan's leaders during Monday's Jim Blanchard Leadership Forum in Columbus. She said that she had to remind herself that the U.S. government has had more than 200 years to mature and that "governance is not a natural act" in places like Afghanistan.

Rice is now a professor of political economy and political science at Stanford University, as well as a senior fellow on public policy at the Hoover Institution.

Trials in Chinese monk self-immolation death (AP)

BEIJING ? The first trial opened Monday in the cases of three Tibetan Buddhist monks charged with murder in western China over the self-immolation death of a colleague in what was described as a political protest.

The March 16 death of Rigzin Phuntsog, 16, was seen by fellow monks and observers as a political protest against China's heavy-handed controls on Tibetan Buddhism and provoked a standoff between security forces and monks.

Authorities accuse two monks, Tsering Tenzin and Tenchum, of plotting, instigating, and assisting in the self-immolation. A third, Drongdru, is accused of moving and hiding the injured monk, preventing him from receiving emergency treatment for 11 hours and eventually leading to his death.

One of the monks went on trial on Monday and two more will follow on Tuesday, a clerk with the Maerkang County People's Court in Sichuan province's Aba prefecture said.

The clerk, who gave only his surname, Zhou, said he did not know which monk went on trial Monday nor how long the trials would last, although the outcomes in such cases are usually predetermined by authorities.

The monastery where the incident occurred, Ngaba Kirti in Sichuan province, is under tight guard by security forces who are accused by pro-Tibetan groups overseas of beating onlookers and detaining monks. The area is off-limits to foreign journalists.

The circumstances surrounding the monk's death remain murky, and in June, China rejected pressure from a U.N. human rights panel to provide information about more than 300 of Kirti's monks whose whereabouts it said are unknown since the monastery was raided in April.

The Foreign Ministry said only that monks were undergoing "legal education" ? a reference to hours-long compulsory political lectures on the basics of the Chinese constitution, criminal law and regulations on religious affairs.

Tibetan monks tend to be fiercely loyal to Tibet's exiled Buddhist leader, the Dalai Lama, who is reviled by Beijing. As custodians of Tibet's Buddhist culture, they tend to be especially concerned about China's tight controls over monasteries that take time away from religious study and practice.

Writing goals describes the act of inscribing on a surface characters or shapes that convey thoughts and ideas in relation to that goal.

Why is this mechanical act of writing goals so important in the achievement process?

Also, what is the best way to approach writing goals for maximum effect?

Words are an integral part of the thinking process.

Words convey images, pictures, feelings, emotions to the mind.

Say to yourself silently "STENCH" and then follow it quickly with "FRAGRANCE" and you will be aware of the different reactions those words produce in your mind.

Here is an interesting observation:

We can be thinking 'something' without realizing fully what that something is.

It is intangible, it is not clearly defined in our mind.

But now, start putting that thought into words, try expressing it and an amazing thing starts to happen.

By clothing it in words, that abstract thought now takes on body, shape, form, substance.

It is no longer just a thought! It becomes something which motivates us, or creates a gut feeling inside.

Just try it and you will see how it works.

So, why is the mechanical act of writing goals so important?

Building on what we have already stated, putting pen to paper now transfers those expressions which embody thoughts onto something tangible. We can now physically look at it.

Even the act of using the eye in coordination with the hand holding the pen when writing goals makes a much firmer impression on our mind as you write out the phrase or expression.

Now when we read and re-read that phrase or sentence the impression on the mind becomes deeper and deeper.

Here is another important point:

When the words are written and then repeatedly re-written they have maximum impact.

So don't be content with a first draft.

Initially writing goals down is important, yes. But then, rephrase it, compact it, add motivating adjectives, make it pithy.

A week later you may want to adjust it again. Keep on fine tuning.

For example, suppose you might set financial goals or the goal to become a public speaker. Let's take the public speaker goal as an example.

The first draft might read:

"My goal is to become an accomplished public speaker who can hold the interest of an audience from beginning to end."

Second draft:

My goal is to be an enthusiastic speaker who gets an audience on its feet.

Third draft:

My goal is to be such an inspiring speaker I get a standing ovation every time.

Can you see how the motivation evolves when writing goals?

Putting it in writing breathes life into it making it a force which cannot be easily stopped.

Calif. school chief gives up $800,000 in pay

FRESNO, Calif.?? Some people give back to their community. Then there's Fresno County School Superintendent Larry Powell, who's really giving back. As in $800,000 ? what would have been his compensation for the next three years.

Until his term expires in 2015, Powell will run 325 schools and 35 school districts with 195,000 students, all for less than a starting California teacher earns.

"How much do we need to keep accumulating?" asks Powell, 63. "There's no reason for me to keep stockpiling money."

Powell's generosity is more than just a gesture in a region with some of the nation's highest rates of unemployment. As he prepares for retirement, he wants to ensure that his pet projects survive California budget cuts. And the man who started his career as a high school civics teacher, who has made anti-bullying his mission, hopes his act of generosity will help restore faith in the government he once taught students to respect.

"A part of me has chaffed at what they did in Bell," Powell said, recalling the corrupt Southern California city officials who secretly boosted their salaries by hundreds of thousands of dollars. "It's hard to believe that someone in the public trust would do that to the public. My wife and I asked ourselves 'What can we do that might restore confidence in government?'"

Powell's answer? Ask his board to allow him to return $288,241 in salary and benefits for the next three and a half years of his term. He technically retired, then agreed to be hired back to work for $31,000 a year ? $10,000 less than a first-year teacher ? and with no benefits.

"I thought it was so very generous on his part," said school board member Sally Tannenbaum. "We get to keep him, but at a much lower rate."

His move was so low-key, his manner so unassuming, that it took four days after the school board meeting for word of his act to get out to the community. There were no press releases or self-congratulatory pats on the back.

"Things like this are what America is all about," said friend Alan Autry, Fresno's former celebrity mayor who played Capt. Bubba Skinner on the TV series "In the Heat of The Night."

"America is as much about overcoming obstacles in difficult times as it is opulence," Autry said. "This reminds me of the great sacrifices made throughout our history, especially the Great Depression."

No one has been more surprised about the positive reaction than Powell, a lifelong educator who didn't realize that what he did was newsworthy. He chuckles at his desk when yet another e-mail arrives from a colleague blown away by his generosity. Two days after word got out he had received 200 messages on his Facebook page.

"When you make good choices, good things happen to you," said Powell, who tends to talk in the kind of uplifting phrases that also make him a sought-after motivational speaker.

He even sees as an asset his childhood contraction of polio, which left him with a limp and a brace, and now a lingering post-polio syndrome.

"It's the most spectacular thing that has happen to me in all my life," he said. "People stepped up to help me be successful."

Powell might credit others, but others say Powell's drive always has come from within. Despite the right leg brace and experimental operations to stop the growth of his healthy leg, he became a champion high school wrestler in Fresno and set a record for one of the most dreaded of all gym class drills ? the 20-foot rope climb, which he completed in 1.8 seconds. Today he carries a six handicap in golf.

After moving into school administration he became deputy superintendent, and was appointed to his current job before running for the office in 2006.

The ordained Baptist minister, who serves on the board of a national anti-bullying group that sprang from the Columbine shootings, is so popular he even counts among his friends his contract bargaining nemesis, the former head of the employees' union.

"For a leader to step up to help the budget is phenomenal," said Mike Lepore. "It gives you hope. It gives you the feeling that everything is being done to try to make education work. It's Larry. It really is."

Powell will still earn a six-figure retirement, especially hefty by the standards of California's farming heartland. But because his salary comes out of the district's discretionary budget, for the next three years he'll be able to steer the money he is giving up where he wants: to programs for kindergarten and preschool, the arts and a pet project that steers B and C students into college by teaching them how to take notes and develop strategy skills.

"Our goal has never been to have things," Powell said of himself and his wife, Dot. "We want to give back."

Obama on Irene: 'This is not over' (AP)

WASHINGTON ? Despite Tropical Storm Irene's weakened punch, President Barack Obama urged those in its path to stay vigilant and warned that the storm's impact would continue to be felt for some time.

"This is not over," Obama said in a Sunday afternoon statement from the Rose Garden.

With Irene having unleashed furious wind and rain as it carved its way along the East Coast, the president said emergency officials were most concerned about lengthy power outages and flooding as swollen rivers begin to crest. He urged the public to heed the warnings of local officials in the coming days, and said his administration would continue working with cities and states to ensure they were prepared to respond.

"The impacts of this storm will be felt for some time. And the recovery effort will last for weeks or longer," said Obama, flanked by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Craig Fugate.

Seeking to show presidential leadership amid the storm, the White House added the Rose Garden statement to Obama's schedule late Sunday afternoon, after Irene had significantly weakened. Most areas, including New York City, appeared to have escaped with less damage than first expected.

The administration has made a concerted effort to present Obama as a president fully engaged in every aspect of the storm, releasing several photos and readouts of Obama's briefings on Irene as it approached the U.S.

The president cut his Martha's Vineyard vacation short by about 12 hours to return to Washington ahead of the storm's arrival. And as the storm made landfall in North Carolina Saturday, Obama visited FEMA's command center in Washington.

While Irene was far weaker than expected, at least 18 people died in the storm and early damage estimates were in the billions of dollars. But Obama said the toll could have been much higher had it not been for preparation and coordination by FEMA and other emergency personnel.

"This has been an exemplary effort of how good government at every level should be responsive to people's needs and work to keep them safe and protect and promote the nation's prosperity," the president said.

With more flooding possible, government officials warned it will take several days before they can fully assess the storm's damage.

Fugate, the FEMA director, said teams first checked on damage in North Carolina, where reports are mostly of flooding, downed trees and damaged highways, and were continuing to move through other affected states as Irene headed north toward Canada.

Fugate said FEMA will work closely with the White House to determine what type of funds may be needed to help cities and states recover.

Obama has already issued emergency declarations for most of the states hit by Irene, including North Carolina, Virginia and New York, in order to make federal resources available to support response efforts.

The White House said Obama was being briefed twice on the storm Sunday, once in the morning and again in the evening. Napolitano, Vice President Joe Biden and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner were among the top administration officials who took part in the video conferences.

Aides wouldn't say Sunday whether Obama had any plans to visit areas affected by the storm. He is scheduled to travel Tuesday to Minnesota to speak at the American Legion's national convention.

As the global economy has tanked in recent years, international companies have sought every advantage they can muster in seeking to score business deals abroad. One tactic, especially favored by big energy firms, is to retain the services of a middleman or "fixer." These obscure but vital players use clout, brains and wiles to broker deals between industry and third-world leaders, and to generally grease the gears of the global oil and gas trade.

Which on the surface makes it hard to understand why U.S. and foreign firms continue to seek the services of Neil Bush. The son of one president and brother of another, Neil's political clout has declined since Barack Obama replaced George W. Bush in 2009, and neither brains nor wiles is Neil's strong suit. Two decades ago, the Washington Post observed that his business ventures had "a history of crashing and burning in spectacular fashion," and time, alas, seems not to have improved his record.

Neil claims to have 30 years in the energy industry, though at least 10 people from the Texas oil patch I spoke with said they had never heard of him playing any notable role in the energy business. Of the former first sibling, one international oil executive and consultant said, "I can't imagine anything he could bring to the table."

Yet Bush, who declined comment for this story, seems to have no trouble staying busy and prosperous. Chinese firms hire him to try to open doors in Africa, and U.S. companies retain him to do the same in Central Asia. Neil is also the founder and CEO of a number of small energy companies -- it's not clear exactly what they do or if he has financial backers -- and lives a life of ease and comfort in Houston, where he resides with his second wife in a luxury condo and regularly graces the social pages.

He travels far in search of deals. As the chairman of Houston-based TX Oil, Neil met with Turkmenistan's crackpot Stalinist dictator, Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, in an effort to gain offshore oil concessions in the Caspian Sea. The tightly controlled state media claimed that he brought a letter from former President George H.W. Bush wishing "sound health and successes" to Berdymukhammedov, and thanking him for inviting Neil "to your beautiful country and for receiving him personally despite your heavy work load."

In November 2010, Neil returned to the country for the Turkmenistan International Oil and Gas Conference, and TX Oil hosted the event's closing cocktail party. "The oil business is in the Bush family bloodline," he declared, according to an account in an energy industry publication, Nefte Compass.

TX Oil is still reportedly in the running for Turkmen concessions, alongside brand name competitors like Chevron and ConocoPhillips. Not everyone seems happy about Bush's potential involvement. "It is the eastern tradition to receive all guests with open arms," said a story in News Central Asia. "However, as independent observers we would recommend that the government of Turkmenistan should consider carefully before committing to any proposals brought by Neil Bush. For one thing, [his company] is a virtually unknown entity ... On top of that, he has a history of questionable business practices."

Indeed, he does. Neil first distinguished himself when the Silverado Savings and Loan of Denver went belly up in 1988 at a time when his father was finishing a second term as Ronald Reagan's vice president. While serving on the S & L's board of directors, Neil voted to approve $100 million in loans to two of his business partners -- he somehow neglected to mention the relationships to fellow board members -- who both subsequently went bankrupt. This adventure in socialized capitalism cost U.S. taxpayers $1.3 billion.

One of the loan recipients was JNB International, an energy exploration company Neil founded with $100 out of his own pocket, and somewhat larger sums from two Denver real estate moguls. "Tell him Neil Bush called," he reportedly told a secretary when leaving a message for a Denver oilman during this period. "You know, the vice president's son."

The family safety net spared Neil from the full consequences of his misdeeds. In regard to Silverado, federal investigators found "breaches of his fiduciary duties involving multiple conflicts of interest." The younger Bush was banned from banking and ordered to pay a $50,000 fine at a civil trial, but a Republican fundraiser held on his behalf helped ease the sting of settling that debt.

Neil went on to found a gas-exploration company called Apex Energy with $2.3 million from Bush-family friend Louis Marx Jr. Neil, who put up $3,000 of his money, received $300,000 in salary over the next two years, at which point Apex went broke. Little gas was ever found.

Next up came a brief stint at TransMedia Communications, owned by a cable TV baron who had raised more than $300,000 for George H.W. Bush. Neil's annual pay was $60,000 and his job description was daunting: "learn the business." In 1993, two years after the conclusion of the first Gulf War, the emir of Kuwait flew Bush Sr. over on his private plane for a ceremony honoring him for leading the coalition that evicted Saddam Hussein. Neil and former Secretary of State James Baker traveled along to try to arrange a power plant deal for Enron, which never happened.

The post-Silverado years proved dark for Neil, so it was fortunate that another family friend, Jamal Daniel, stepped in to help out. A Syrian-American fixer with substantial interests in the international energy business and beyond, Daniel has close ties to the ruling families in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen.

Daniel, who lives in Houston, was a major donor to the presidential campaigns of both Bush Sr. and Bush Jr., and to the latter's 1994 Texas gubernatorial campaign. In 2003, after the invasion of Iraq, he and other Bush administration cronies set up New Bridge Strategies LLC to advise companies seeking business in post-Saddam Iraq. The consulting firm didn't work out so well -- probably because few businesses cared to invest in war-torn Iraq -- though the Paris-based newsletter Intelligence Online reported in June that Daniel had invested in an oil deal in Iraqi Kurdistan, so the invasion wasn't a total loss for him. (There is no indication that Neil had any role in the investment.)

Daniel treats Neil like next of kin. Over the years, he has paid for Neil's family to take a trip to Disneyland Paris and bought Neil and his wife, Sharon, a $380,000 cottage in Maine. Neil also married his second wife, Maria, at Daniel's Houston mansion.

In return, Neil has occasionally exerted himself. Back in the late-1990s, Daniel made Neil co-chairman of Crest Investment Corporation and paid him $60,000 annually for a few hours of work per week. Separately, Daniel and other Bush Family Friends financially backed Neil's education company, Ignite! Much of the firm's business was obtained through sole-source contracts from school districts in Texas. In 2006, his mother donated an undisclosed amount of money to the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund with specific instructions that it be earmarked to buy Ignite! products for local schools that took in hurricane evacuees.

Yet for all the handouts from the Bush family network, Neil's ventures still failed to generate much profit. His famously nasty 2003 divorce proceedings with Sharon revealed that he was essentially broke. At the time, a well-placed source told me, he drove a minivan owned by his mother. The proceedings also revealed that on at least three business trips to Asia, women Neil didn't know came into his hotel room unbidden and had sex with him. The practice, he acknowledged, seemed "very unusual."

"You don't think he was picked to be part of all of those business deals because he was so brilliant, do you?" Marshall Davis Brown, Sharon Bush's attorney, asked when I met him at his Houston office. "He had a big hat but no horse."

Neil has received relatively little press attention since his divorce, though he has been living well. In February 2005, Mexican magnate Jaime Camil hosted a 50th birthday party for Neil at his estate in Acapulco. The Houston Chronicle reported that two dozen Houstonians flew down for the festivities. "Saturday night, the host-with-the-most pulled out the stops at his expansive villa," wrote the newspaper's society columnist. "A lavish fireworks display topped off a night that included a 16-piece mariachi band, dancers from Mexico City's Ballet Folklorico and gourmet fare."

The truth is, failure has been very good to Neil. He currently resides in a $1.6 million, six-bedroom, five-bathroom condominium located near Houston's upscale West Oaks Mall. He has in recent years set up at least 10 firms in Houston and Austin, according to incorporation records filed with the Texas secretary of state's office. His companies have generic names like GCC Source Point, Global XS2, BTZ Holdings and ATX Oil, and it's hard to find out much about them since they are registered as limited liability companies (and hence little public disclosure is required), mostly don't have websites and almost never turn up in news accounts. If he has consummated any deals through these firms, they were probably not big.

One of Neil's firms is registered at an address that doesn't exist and several are registered at his condo, including a firm called Nexus Energy, which actually operates from (or at least has an office at) an oil firm headed by his current wife's ex-husband, Robert Andrews. Neil established Nexus in late 2008 "to pursue business opportunities both overseas and in the United States," according to a corporate profile it has distributed. "[Neil has] cultivated many relationships among private business people and large energy related enterprises in Asia and the Middle East. Nexus seeks to leverage these relationships to act on behalf of a client or partner company." In November 2009, Neil represented Nexus at an energy conference in New Orleans, at which Karl Rove tagged along.

Firms from China regularly retain Neil, which isn't surprising given the deep ties his family has there. Bush Sr. was appointed as U.S. liaison in Beijing under President Gerald Ford, and during his presidency sought greatly expanded trade with Beijing while downplaying human rights concerns. George W. Bush also forged a close relationship with China, and Neil's deceased uncle, Prescott Bush Jr., was a close friend of former premier Jiang Zemin and did a good deal of business there.

In March of this year, Bush Sr., wife Barbara and Neil had dinner at the residence of the Chinese consul general in Houston. The Chinese government expressed hope in a written statement that the Bushes would "continue playing an important role in making contributions to ... the friendship between the two peoples." For their part the Bush family said the visit felt "like home," and expressed special pleasure at being served "their favorite Beijing Roasted Duck." The consul general and the Bushes also "exchanged views on China-U.S. relations ... and other issues of their common interest."

These sorts of ties have surely contributed to Neil's list of Chinese clients, mainly companies seeking natural resource deals in Africa, including Shougang Holdings, a state-owned steel giant. In 2009, Neil led a delegation of the company's officials to Liberia, where Shougang was seeking an iron ore mining concession. The Neil connection didn't help: An Israeli firm ultimately won out.

The same year Neil traveled to Ghana with executives from oil giant Sinopec, the world's seventh largest firm and a major competitor of U.S. companies. Neil managed to get meetings with top local political leaders. A source familiar with Bush's efforts said that he opened doors in Ghana with the help of his friend Chris Wilmot, a businessman originally from Ghana who now lives in Houston. "Chris has the ties in Ghana that go all the way to the top," this person told me. "Neil was riding on his coattails over there." To no avail. Neil's clients didn't get the deal they were angling for.

On a weekday morning, I stopped by TX Oil's headquarters in a bland office building on Westheimer Road in Houston. New Age music played from a Bose system in the reception area, which was decorated with a cowboy painting, an aquarium and a leather sofa. The office wasn't bristling with activity, and the secretary told me no one would be available to talk to me about TX Oil.

"Is there a brochure or any information you can give me?" I asked.

"Not yet," she replied with a cool smile.

Why do companies keep hiring Neil? It can't be for his business acumen. More likely, his employers write checks out of friendship, loyalty and interest in currying favor with his family's business and political network. In a reflection of the declining value of the Bush family name in the age of Obama, Neil does not seem to command the fees he once did.

In 2002, he received payments of $2 million in stock and $10,000 per board meeting from Grace Semiconductor -- a firm backed by the son of Jiang Zemin -- even though he knew nothing at all about semiconductors. Last December he was named a director of China Timber Resources Group, which has forest resources in Guyana and China. Neil's director's fee is a mere $1,200 a month, which the company said "was determined with reference to his experience, scope of work, level of involvement, seniority as well as the prevailing market conditions." Ouch.

It's getting tougher to be a fixer who can't fix much.

I met Steve Jobs once. He and inventor Steve Wozniak were at the now-legendary Homebrew Computer Club meeting in Silicon Valley, where engineers and local wannabe ?computing kit? geeks used to meet weekly to discuss how to create or build computer kits for home use.

The first true personal computer, the Apple II, was still two years away, remember. So this night was very early on in computer time. It was 1975.

Each Homebrew meeting featured a ?random access? time, where anyone sitting there could just stand up, ask questions and announce things. I loved that part.

Steve Wozniak stood up and offered free copies of the schematic for the computer he built and was planning to start selling with Steve Jobs.

?I was so nervous,? Wozniak said to BYTE today about that time. ?But I heard it went great. Everyone seemed so excited about the Apple I.?

Afterward, I approached Steve Jobs. He was behind one of the tables, showing a hand wire-wrapped Apple I breadboard.

He was talking about the tradeoffs in implementing functions in software or hardware. As an editor of Interface Age, I wanted to know more. Could I have an interview?

Only if we dedicated a whole issue to Apple, he said.

A whole issue on schematic on a box that hadn?t even shipped yet? I was pissed by the kid?s arrogance, frankly, and I walked away. How silly of me.

I should?ve asked for a job right then and there. All I cared about was computers, and the Apple I designs at first glance looked like a huge leap ahead.

The seismically sleepy mid-Atlantic states were struck by a magnitude 5.8 earthquake on August 23. At 1:51 p.m. EDT on Tuesday an earthquake struck Virginia, 135 kilometers southwest of Washington, D.C. It?s among the largest temblors to strike the state in recorded history.

The quake?s epicenter was located in central Virginia about 61 kilometers northwest of Richmond, at a preliminary estimated depth of 6 kilometers. Reports of the quake were posted on the U.S. Geological Survey?s Did You Feel It? website from as far away as Ohio and New York. That?s not unusual for earthquakes on the East Coast, which are commonly felt over a wide area.

?An event of the same size is felt over a much larger area in the East, compared to the West,? says Charles Ammon, an earthquake seismologist at Pennsylvania State University in University Park.

Vibrations from an 1897 temblor centered on Virginia?s Giles County, magnitude 5.9, reached Georgia and Pennsylvania and as far westward as Kentucky and Indiana. Chimneys crumbled and visible fissures appeared during this event.

On Tuesday, buildings rattled and lights flickered as people took to the streets in the nation?s capital. Both the U.S. Capitol Building and the Pentagon were evacuated, the Associated Press reported ? as was the building that houses the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program in Reston, Va. While it?s unclear if the city?s buildings suffered much structural damage from the quake, three pinnacles did snap off the central tower of the Washington National Cathedral, says Richard Weinberg, media spokesperson. Stone masons and engineers are assessing the full extent of the damage.

Earthquakes in the mid-Atlantic tend to be small ? like last year?s magnitude 3.6 temblor beneath Germantown, Md. The East Coast lacks the active fault systems created by colliding continental plates characteristic of California and the West Coast. The crust that underlies the mid-Atlantic region tends to be older, cooler and more stable. The recent quake likely started on a previously unknown fault that has been dormant for a long time in the middle of the Central Virginia Seismic Zone.

The East Coast isn?t entirely immune to big ones, though. In 1886 an earthquake registering between magnitude 6.6 and 7.3 hit Charleston, S.C., damaging an estimated 2,000 buildings and killing dozens of people.

A small magnitude 2.8 aftershock gently rocked Virginia again at 2:46 p.m. Rumors, spread in some initial news reports about the event, that this latest earthquake is a foreshock coming before a larger event are just speculation.

?There?s no scientific method that could identify a foreshock,? says Ammon.

I don't think there are too many men out there where this is applicable, so I'm thinking either:

1) It's just too weird or inconvenient
2) why bother when there are so many other men out there who are normal
3) You don't enjoy the other forms of penetration
4) You enjoy giving oral too much (or it's been your experience that you won't get without first giving)

Back when 'The Big Chill" was made treatments were absent (experimental or none) for ED. Viagra was a heart medicine and the erections in males is a side effect not why the drug was originally developed.

It would only be an issue for me if it were an issue for him. By that, I mean if the guy has super low self-esteem and just can't get over it, the relationship can't go anywhere because the poor guy is more concerned with berating himself than pursuing a relationship.

There's more to sex than just a penis. The guy can get a strap-on or use his hands/mouth, or we can get toys. my actual concern would be how to please HIM. I just listed that you can use more than just a penis to please a woman, but for a man who can't get it up, how does he get pleased? I'd probably try a lot of holistic cures if Western Medicine has given up on men like him for the time being and hope something worked so that he could get something out of the experience, too. The only thing I would be able to think of is giving his flaccid penis oral stimulation while manually stimulating his prostate. perhaps the double stimulation would at least cause him pleasure, even if he couldn't ejaculate.

Sex isn't a deal maker or deal breaker for me, it's the person and his personality. if he's willing to explore, then so am I. All relationships take work to function.

Edit: I like hanables idea of a strap on for men. I think a prosthetic cap would make the relationship a lot more viable than a relationship limited to other kinds of sex, or hand held tools. I'd still need to know that he enjoyed it though.
